SAID WALLIS WEDDING
Said Walli lives in Urosgan Afghanistan. Twelve years ago, he got engaged Said Walli was engaged twelve years ago. He was charged a Walwar (bride price) of 450.000 Afghani (Afghan currency / today approx. € 5385).
Said Walli worked hard for years, saving 400,000 Afghani in addition to household expenses. He handed the money over to the bride’s family. But then a few years ago he was seriously injured at work.
Today Said Walli has a small snack booth, but he makes just enough to cover the household expenses. Nothing of his income remains for the remaining 50.000 Afghani Walwar and additional wedding expenses. However, the bride’s family does not want release him from this burden. As a result, Said Walli and his bride have been engaged to each other for over 12 years, with no prospect of a future together.
The journalist Shareefullah Sharafat, of Azzadi radio in Urusgan, reported on Said Wallis situation. As a result, we SAMC and the aid organisation Taawon, with the help of a few volunteers, provided the remaining bridal allowance. Now the separated couple is united. The wedding took place on April 23, 2020. We thank all sisters and brothers who helped in the process.
